Decide where to drill

Drill targeting

Ranked against your budget and commodity, with the reasoning shown.

The problem

Drilling is the largest cost of an early-stage programme, and the choice of where to drill is often made in a meeting, from memory of which anomaly looked best. Months later, nobody can say exactly why hole 7 was drilled before hole 12.

A target list with its reasoning written down does two things. It puts the first metres where the evidence is strongest, and it lets the next person, or the next investor, follow the logic.

What you send

Your integrated data and, if one exists, a prospectivity analysis. Plus the constraints that decide what is drillable: budget, metres available, access, permits, season and the commodity you are funded to find.

What we do

  • Define targets where independent data layers coincide, each with a stated geological rationale
  • Rank them by strength of evidence, depth, access and cost
  • Design the holes that test each target: collar, azimuth, dip and length, checked against terrain
  • List for each target what would raise or lower confidence before drilling
  • Fit the programme to the metres your budget pays for

What you get

A ranked target sheet, a browser map and model showing each planned hole against the data, and collar coordinates ready for the field.

Example: “Target 1 of 5: copper-in-soil anomaly over a chargeability high at a structural intersection, undrilled. It ranks first because three independent data layers coincide. Three 250 m holes test it.” Each target lists its supporting evidence and what is missing.

What it cannot say

A ranking orders targets by evidence; it does not promise an intersection. The top target can be barren and the fifth can be the discovery. What the ranking guarantees is that the reasons were explicit before the rig arrived, so that a miss still teaches something about the model.

Questions

Can you work with a fixed number of metres?

Yes. The budget is an input. The target sheet shows which holes fit inside it and what the next tranche would test if more funding arrives.

What if we already have targets of our own?

They are ranked alongside the others on the same criteria. Often the value is in seeing why a favourite target ranks where it does.

Do you supervise the drilling?

No. We provide the targets, hole designs and field coordinates, and we can update the model as assays arrive. Site supervision stays with your geologists or contractor.

Have data and a decision to make?

Tell us what you have and what you need to decide. We will say what your data can support, and what it cannot, before any work starts.
