About

About Gossan

Tailored analysis and modelling of geological data for early-stage mineral projects, by an independent consultancy.

Who does the work

Gossan is an independent consultancy. The work is done by Thomas Houweling, who is also the person you speak to from the first conversation to the final delivery. There is no account manager between your question and the person answering it.

We work remotely with exploration teams in Latin America and Europe, in English, Spanish and Italian.

What we do

We take the geological data a project already has, make it consistent, analyse it and model it, and present the result so that it supports a decision: where to drill next, what the ground could hold, how to show it. The work is organised in three stages, understand your ground, decide where to drill and make the case, and you can take any part of it.

How we work

  • Scoped to the question. Work starts from what the project needs to decide, and stops there.
  • No licences. We build on open-source tools and deliver in open formats. You pay for work done, not for annual seats or unused modules.
  • Nothing to install. Deliverables open in a browser, so geologists, management, investors, regulators and communities see the same picture.
  • Honest about uncertainty. Outputs match what the data can support: rankings before drilling, ranges after, with alternative geological interpretations where they matter.

What we do not do

Gossan provides decision support. We do not issue mineral resource or reserve estimates, and nothing we produce is a statement under NI 43-101 or JORC. Tonnage, grade and probability figures are conceptual, and public disclosure requires a qualified person's sign-off. The difference is explained in exploration target versus mineral resource.

Confidentiality

Client data is used only for the client's work. The stories on this site are anonymised, with no names, coordinates or identifiable maps, and are published only with the client's agreement.

The name

A gossan is the rust-coloured cap that forms where a sulphide deposit weathers at surface: a visible sign of what may lie below, which has to be read with care. There is more in What is a gossan?
